Michelle Trachtenberg as Bella Swan? Unthinkable to most 'Twilight' fans, but the 'Gossip Girl' actress revealed Wednesday night to Us Weekly that she nearly landed the role that went to Kristen Stewart. "There was definitely interest here and there because there's only so few pale girls in Hollywood," she said. (What, Taylor Momsen wasn't available?) But Trachtenberg said she's "already done the vampire thing," referring to her years on 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' as tag-along little sister Dawn.
At the LOLA opening in New York, Trachtenberg said she had an in with Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the first 'Twilighr' film: "I've known Catherine Hardwicke since the movie 'Thirteen." And by the way, "I was actually supposed to star in that, but I was on 'Buffy' at the time."
Trachtenberg, who now plays Georgina on 'Gossip Girl,' said that 'Twilight' passed her by because, "I guess schedules never worked out." She claims not to have any regrets. " [Hypothetical answers mean] you're not living in the moment and you're looking negatively at what you're doing now," she said when asked to speculate on what her life would have been like if she'd become Bella Swan.
And 'Thirteen' turned out to be quite the vampire spawning ground: The 2003 film starred Nikki Reed and Evan Rachel Wood: Reed went on to play vampire Rosalie in the 'Twilight' series, while Wood joined her own vamp franchise as vampire queen Sophie Anne on 'True Blood.'
On 'Buffy,' Dawn got to be BFFs with bad boy vamp Spike (James Marsters) and slay a few bloodsuckers alongside big sis Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar).
