The backbone of "The Expendables" franchise are the action dudes who made it happen back in the day, like Ah-nold and movie mastermind Sylvester Stallone. In every "Expendables," though, there's a new guy to pass the torch to, and this time around, it could be Kellan Lutz.
Lutz, who's best known for playing Emmett Cullen in the "Twilight" franchise, is in "early talks" for a role in the third "Expendables," reports TheWrap. According to the site, he'd play a member of "a younger group of tech-savvy action heroes who initially clash with the older crew, though they eventually team up to save the day."
Who else could join Lutz in going toe-to-toe with the aging action stalwarts? Liam Hemsworth was in "The Expendables 2," but he won't be returning. So far we've heard about talks with the older tier of actors, like Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, and Milla Jovovich, but nothing about this younger generation of butt-kickers.
Then there are all those pesky rumors about Mel Gibson. At the moment, he's "not officially involved," but that could change; both Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger had surprise cameos in the first movie and larger roles in the second.
Nothing will stop these "Expendables," so stay tuned for more news on the three-quel.
